The book "The Freedom Writers Diary" is written by Erin Gruwell's students. It talks about the students lives .In this book we can see how they live in Long Beach,California, and what kind situation they can be confronted to like drugs, jail, domestic violence...
I will talk about the domestic violence.
Diary 63 talk about a latino girl who is abused by her boyfriend.Everything began when he slapped her and he started to call her names. But she didn't do anything to stop him, because she loved him and they need each other,I quote "we were like a fire triangle, he was the oxygen,I was the flame, and together we made the fuel. All mixed together we were a fire.
In diary 64, there is a girl whose stepdad keeps hitting her mom and her.

Questions about the Freedom Writers

Question 1: Because the Freedom Writers didn't know what the Holocaust is, and because Mrs Gruwell wants to show them what racism leads to. Their situation in the "hood" is similar to the Holocaust.

Question 2: The Freedom writers think that Anne Frank looks like them. For example,in diary 37 the person says:"I'm beginning to realize that Anne Frank, Zlata Filipovic, and I have a lot in common."

Question 3:She impacted their lives because she is young but she lives an adult situation. They are surprised to see that in Europe the situation for some people is similar to theirs.

Question 4: I think that before the meeting with Zlata, she thinks that every ethnicity is different and now she (diary 47) understands that race isn't the most important thing in a person and that every ethnicity should be equal.

Freedom writers' diary

I would like to invite Marthin Luter King or Malcolm X because they represent the

poursuit of happiness for black people and muslim people and they were killed for

their opinion, but their death changed the world.

If you read books about different people, you're going to understand them and why they understand you.
Anne Frank didn't live like their but her life was dangerous like the Freedom Writers'.

The danger of stereotype is to hate an ethnicity in particular. For exemple, people are afraid when they see 2 black guys at night because they think blacks are going to kill them.

I think that we can beak free from stereotypes when we are educated and if we keep a good spirit .I think it's important because if we don't there will be a lot of discrimination.

In this book(freedom writers diary),the students come from different ethnicities like black, asian, latinos(mexican),little bit white.

The "hood" is constituted of housing projects,it's far from the gated communities and school. It's very dangerous, there is racial tension, you can be threatened,jacked,jumped...

In the "hood",there are wars between different races.

The role the students' parents have is limited because they can't help their children ( they work a lot to make ends meet, the fathers have often left home), but I think they love them and sometimes the students don't have parents, like in diary 13.

The students' experience of Juvenile Hall is really bad, one of the student cried the first night,he was scared to be in jail because they are gangs in jail too.

When I was in primary school at City-Jonction, I did not want to
leave this school, for fear of losing my friends, failing college, of I feared I would have difficulties integrating. I thought about thing of it during the vacations of summer.

When I arrived at Grandes-Communes college everything went very well even from a
social point of view.

I made new friends while keeping the old one.

You know student at college are "divided" into groups.
You had "sk8tters", "rappeurs", "perdu", "stylé", "connus" (which regrouped especially “rappeurs” and “stylé”).
I joined the "connus", I say that I was lucky because it "connus" were most respected contrarily to in “perdu" who were always became threatened, insulted by the "connus".
Me contrary I felt commiseration towards them and defended them when one to teach my friends bothered them.

After 3 years at college, I must had to change school, to go to the secondary school. With this change, I became doubtful and insecure again.

But once again, I succeeded in overcoming my fears.

My feeling compared to the school depends especially on my mood.
It depends on lessons I have, on the grades, on the exams...

It also depends on my mood. If for instance I am angry or tired, my day at the school will be a true Hell!!! But on the opposite it I am in a good mood, I will spend a good day and nothing will be able to change it. (Except a poor grade!) : (

In my opinion, the school is a source of hate, sadness as well as a source of joy and happiness! the school can be nice for some and unpleasant for others. For me it is only a small chapter of my life with its difficulties and its joy that I overcome has every time!;)

Mi oPiNiOn aBoUt "mIsSiSsIpI BuRnInG"!

the movie " Mississipi Burning " takes place in Mississipi in 1964. He tells the history of 3 young men who dissappeared, then Washington sends 2 F.B.I inspectors everything equator in daytimes disappearing. One of the persons missing person, is a black man.
This information allows very quickly to the inspector to equator on new one trace: to follow a good clue the Ku Klux Klan :a racist organization which has been killing black people in the United States since the abolition of slavery. This enquiry caused the death of several coloured people.
In spite of the difficulty in getting information (because the blacks are afraid of be killed if they speak to F.B.I) the inspectors find the bodies of the victims and condemn the sheriff and his assistants as well as " carry word of KKK ". This film moved me a lot, because I could see what poor black people endured at that time. This film also shocked me because in spite of crime they committedthe members of the KKK get out of court with a trouble of maximum 10 years in jail!!!
Happily that today its a little bit different, evenif in the states of the South it there it still of difference between blacks and white.
